How to choose
For productivity, a 34-inch ultrawide sits in a genuine sweet spot: wide enough for three usable windows, short enough that you are not craning your neck. Larger 49-inch models are impressive but effectively require you to sit further back, which undermines the text clarity benefit.
For gaming, check the titles you actually play. Support for 21:9 is now common, but competitive shooters sometimes crop rather than extend the field of view, and some older or Japanese-developed titles do not adapt at all.

Is one ultrawide better than two monitors?
It depends on your work. Ultrawides win for continuous timelines, spreadsheets and code with side panels. Two monitors win when you need genuinely separate full-screen contexts, such as a video call plus a document.
Do ultrawides cause performance problems in games?
They render more pixels than a 16:9 screen of the same height, so yes, expect a frame rate cost. Budget for a stronger graphics card than a standard 1440p screen would need.
