How to choose
Buy into a platform with a healthy spares ecosystem rather than the fastest car in your budget. The first six months will involve replacing driveshafts, suspension arms and possibly a servo, and a model with no available parts ends that journey abruptly.
Be realistic about where you will drive it. Small on-road cars are miserable on anything but smooth tarmac, and most beginners overestimate how much smooth surface they have access to. A short-course truck handles mixed ground far better.
Common questions
Brushed or brushless motor for a first car?
Brushed is slower, cheaper and more forgiving, and is the sensible starting point. Brushless is substantially faster and considerably less tolerant of beginner mistakes.
How long does a battery last per charge?
Typically fifteen to twenty-five minutes of mixed driving on an entry-level pack. A second battery roughly doubles a usable session and is the best first accessory purchase.
